Do you have to have a windshield wiper on a self driving car? How about a horn?
Self driving cars won’t happen all at once. Nobody is suddenly going to make a self driving car that has complete ability to operate. Not Google, Apple or anyone else. Self driving cars will happen with small incremental evolutionary changes that society can adjust to. In fact it is already happening.
We are going to have self driving vehicles soon and the first ones will probably be trucks. The economics are excellent. Here is an idea for an interim step to autonomous trucks.
