Quirky thoughts from an old man.

Rebecca and I hiked up to the Eaton Canyon Waterfall on Monday.
There was enough boulder hopping over the stream to make it fun with out it being dangerous.
This rock has been lodged at the top of the falls for perhaps 20 years:
And the graffiti is still everywhere.
Rebecca thought that the best solution was to invent a paint that has a release antidote. I wanted to put in remote cameras catch and then spray paint some young men. Albert Nock would say that if you live in an urban area this is one of the penalties, live with it.
This year for the first time in about twenty years Nurit didn’t cook Thanksgiving Dinner. After we went hiking in Red Rock Canyon Lillian cooked up a storm. It was great. She made a legless turkey and about a million side dishes. All of them were delicious, with the possible exception of the gravy that was sweet and sour flavored. I drank a lot of wine, talked too much and had a generally good time. I was having so much fun I only took one photo:
Nurit, Lillian and Nazia
Nazia is Canadian via Africa and India. I was thinking that her ancestory was unique until I realized that Lillian’s is American via Israel, England, Germany and Poland.
We can all be thankful that we live in a part of the world were we are judged by what we create not by who our ancestors are. Happy Thanksgiving. Our Las Vegas trip photo album
Nurit and I went to Las Vegas to have Thanksgiving dinner with Lillian. In the morning we went to Red Rock Canyon for a hike. It was lovely.
The aptly named Red Rock Canyon is a BLM site just west of Las Vegas and it is definitely worth a visit. Even if you don’t hike the driving loop is spectacular. We drove the loop and hiked near Willow Springs.
It is nice that there is something to do in Vegas that doesn’t involve gambling, smoking or excess.
The park is dog friendly. Lillian and her friends saw the wild burros when they visited and we saw a roadrunner. Nice postcards in the gift shop. Admission is $5.00 per car. Life is good. More Photos
I went to Van Wert, OH last week to visit my brother Andrew and his family. Andrew has been hospitalized recently for some lung ailments but he appears fine now. He does have to breathe some oxygen and is moving slowly but he assures me that his prognosis is very good.
Burrows in Ohio
Driving from Chicago to Van Wert was a very pleasant interlude. The flat fertile farmland is such a contrast to the desert mountains of the west.
I’ve posted a collection of pictures of my visit on Flickr and would be delighted to add one of Amber and a family photo of the Somertons. Hint. Hint.
On our UK trip we had a very nice time seeing family in London. We didn’t have to time to see the Midlands aunties and cousins this trip. Next time I promise.
We took this great group photo while the Tower Bridge was being raised to allow a small sailboat through:
All of the good photos are on this flickr link but there are a few more below
In our family we sometime go of on laughing tangents about odd things. Sometimes the tangents last for years:
Blue Fuff
Blue Fuff is an example of a family joke. Lillian was trying to say blue stuff or fluff and ended up with a new word Fuff. We still laugh about it whenever we see a truck covered with tarps.
