Price

“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.”

Henry David Thoreau

The Red Rocks of Sedona. Thoreau was wise but unrealistic. He needs qualifiers. Life is not an on/off switch. To get a serendipitous moment may require putting up with multiple ordinary moments. A low price.

Perspective

Sometimes a change in location occasions a change in perspective.

Sometimes a change of attitude is necessary. Note the improving ability to add words to the photos. It turns out the ability was there all along I just hadn’t discovered it permanently yet. Evolutionary progress is being made.

Action

“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

St Francis of Assisi

At a famous breakfast place in Healdsburg CA they have an equally famous display of Nutcracker soldiers. They are only on display in December. Plan accordingly.

Attitude

“It is easier to have a good attitude when one is well fed.”

Unknown

I posted a discussion last month about whether attitude is learnable or is inherited. See Here It probably a little of both but this pearl succinctly points out the connection between security and a good attitude.

Opportunity

“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

Milton Berle

The garland was made in Nepal from New Zealand wool. It is the first product made in Nepal I have ever seen and shows how the global economy is expanding even as the naysayers bemoan nationalism and globalism. Family Hanukkah Night 14. We are not date rigid.

Also available in Christmas colors about $6.00. Shout out to Trader Joe’s buyers.

The Keys to Happiness

“The keys to happiness are high hopes and low expectations.”

This maxim has been revised many times over the 20 years or so I have been writing this blog. I like this new version and I like the idea of thinking about what makes people happy. Other versions of the key to happiness

The photo is of Jack Gold’s key collection. He was my father-in-law, he had strong opinions and lived a full life. Much of my happiness I owe to him since he was the father of Nurit.

Ease

“Nothing worth having is easy”

Theodore Roosevelt

Photo is from Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. It is a slot canyon with beautiful sandstone formations that is well run by the Navaho. Tom, my broother, and I went on a toour there in December.
