Lavender

“The difference between an ordeal and an adventure is attitude.“ On the way to the Oregon coast we went looking for lavender. We had seen one row growing near Ashland a decade or so ago. After some luck, some unlikely twists and turns and a good attitude we found Lavender Fields Forever It looked like the fields we saw in Provence a few years ago. We were allowed to pick lavender and take pictures even though they were closed. Life is Good

Oregon Travel

It was the height of the short tourist season on the Oregon Coast when we visited. We stayed by the bridge in Newport and we experienced blowing glass. We also ate great food, the best meal was at Beck in Depot Bay. And we had daily walks to various scenic places on the coast including a lighthouse, a ghost forest, a Beaver Creek and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Glass Blowing

On our trip to Oregon last month our daughters organized for us to go to a glass blowing studio and have a lesson. I was suspicious. I love glass and thought that it was unlikely that we could create anything that was worthwhile or that we would be allowed to really be involved in the process. I was wrong on both counts. Logs vs Dead Trees

Last week in Oregon we had a nice discussion about when a dead tree becomes a log. Our conclusion (open to revision if more data comes in) is that a reasonably large tree has to be cut down and the branches have to be cut off before it can be called a log.
