Butchart Gardens Thought

Nurit and I went to Butchart Gardens in British Columbia yesterday. It was magnificent. The last time we visited was thirty years ago on our honeymoon. We were charmed by it then, even though it was raining. Yesterday was a wonderful sunny day and as we left the garden and drove throught the dreary commercial strip and along the bill board marked road I had a very zen thought. What if the total beauty that can be appreciated in a area has to remain constant.… Read More »Butchart Gardens Thought

Baseball idea

Nurit and I went to the Dodgers/Giants game on Friday night with Joe C. and his extremely bright son Benjamin. The Dodgers won a close game and a good time was had by all. We had really good seats thanks to Kathy G. We sat on the first base side, in the loge level, with a direct view of the big screen in left field. This confluence of people, place and circumstances gave birth to an idea that will make a few hundred thousand dollars… Read More »Baseball idea

Confirmational Bias

This article from Scientific American (The Political Brain) reviews a study confirming that people tend to look for information that support their beliefs and dismiss arguments that contradict them. The amazing thing it found was that we don’t even use the reasoning center of our brains after we make up our minds about a subject. The sender fills in the order blank including the message and charges his or her credit card. The order is transmitted to the youth group at the appropriate site. The message is hand written on the card selected, stamped and… Read More »Postcards From Anywhere

Focused Cruise Ships

Here is a business idea for those of you in the travel industry.  Run cruise vacations that are extremely focused.  Some examples: Surfing the South Pacific Diving the South China Sea Shopping Paradise: Hong Kong to Singapore The target market is probably big enough now with the aging baby boomers.  The boats would have to be outfitted correctly.

Gasoline Prices

Here is an idea that might help stabilize oil prices. Allow individuals to buy gasoline at todays prices for delivery in the future. Gasoline Futures for everyone. People on the East Coast can pre-buy home heating oil and lock in a price. Why can’t we do that with gasoline? Economist could probably predict the effect on the price of gasoline? Both in the short term and in the long term. People could buy coupons or credits on their credit cards for a specific number of… Read More »Gasoline Prices
