  • Spend some time making your background reflect you.
  • Take some practice runs. See who looks good on Zoom and emulate them.
  • Don’t eat on camera. Even at a Zoom cocktail party.
  • Place your camera at eye level. Don’t be the jowly one.
  • Don’t sit too close or your nose will dominate the screen
  • Mute yourself when there are distractions on your end.
  • Practice smiling.
  • Watch the screen. Everybody can tell if your distracted by a YouTube cat video
  • Dress for the occasion. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • Have a pithy introductory remark ready. You can look up pithy.
  • Address people by name. Most of them have them on their screens if not build a chart.
