Wine at Walmart

This is the wine aisle at a Walmart store in Van Wert, Ohio. There is a lot of wine and some of the labels I recognize. J Lohr and Santa Margarita being the ones I bought. The interesting thing is how the wine is organized. It first appeared that they have sorted it by size. With the larger bottles at one end and the regular size bottles at the other. This made me laugh out loud.

Upon closer examination I found that the larger bottles were all from Gallo and their controlled brands. It appears that about 40% of the wine aisle shelf space at this Walmart is controlled by Gallo. Which may be a good thing for Gallo or it might mean that they are losing control of their ability to price for profitability.
