George Walton was a Founding Father of the United States. He was orphaned young and was apprenticed to an uncle as a carpenter. Against his uncles wishes he was self educated and eventually became a lawyer, in Savannah. He soon became involved in Georgia State politics. He was a delegate to the Second Continental Congress and was present to vote for and later sign the Declaration of Independence. He never owned slaves and on occasion spoke out against slavery. He was a political enemy of Button Gwinnett.
