Benjamin Franklin was a printer by trade and a very successful one, so when the King levied the Stamp Tax, which taxed paper, he was incensed and helped to foment the revolution. He was well liked and well loved. He was both a drafter and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Franklin was among other things the first United States Postmaster. There are many books about Franklin one of the best is Benjamin Franklin an American Life by Walter Isaacson.
