Strangers

“The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love them as yourself.”

Leviticus 19:34

The Jewish Bible and the Christian Bible both include instructions to be kind to strangers. They don’t have the same instructions about being kind to your family. Why? Because you are naturally kind to family but wary at best of strangers. So the Bibles instruct you to go against your instinct and “Love them as yourselves.”
