About Transgender Athletes
In our diverse and tolerant society we should be willing to accept that for some people sex is not a binary thing. We can accommodate and celebrate them with very little difficulty.
But there is one exception: Because people born with a Y Chromosome* tend to be larger, stronger and have higher levels of testosterone. It seems to me that is unfair in athletics for people with a Y chromosome to compete against people who have two X chromosomes. All other things being unequal they have an unfair advantage.
Unfortunately there are going to be losers. Right now my argument is that the losers in athletics should be those who chose to change their gender identity because they have a choice and they are the smaller group. If you are born with testicles you should have to compete against other people who have two X chromosomes. It seems to be fairer to the XY chromosome group that they not have to compete against XX people however they identify.
Of course this is a tiny problem being magnified by culture war politics on both sides. And it will work itself out over time. My current opinion is not cast in stone because medical science will make advances, a third league might develop or something else will occur.
*to review: males have two X chromosomes and females have an X and a Y chromosome. I do know a little bit of biology.
