”The moving finger writes and having writ moves on.”
From The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam
This photo was taken about 1955 plus or minus a couple of years. The adults in the back are my grandparents on my father’s side. The boy on the left is me. The others in order are my brothers, Andrew, Jim and Tom. The two boys on the far right are my cousins Chris and John.
The photo was I think taken in Cornwall where my Grandparents were running a bed and breakfast in the town of Redruth. I suspect Cornwall because of the hills.
I have lost touch with my cousins, they moved to Australia about the same time that we moved to the USA in 1957 and we stayed loosely in touch until about 2010 when we lost contact. Grandma and Grandpop are both dead as is my brother Andrew who died during Covid. So of the eight people in the photo only three remain in touch. For those of you keeping track the photo does not include my brother Matt as he was not born when it was taken.

The first time I have seen this photo. My guess is that the year was 1953, just about Christmas. I would love to know the name of the B&B and the town where it was.

I believe the B&B was in the village or portreath. It had a huge (in the eyes of kids) bamboo forest in the front yard. And a walking trail down to the harbour.
