A year or so ago China stopped buying recycled plastic on the world market and the economics of recycling suddenly got a lot worse. Here is a proposal that will lower costs, save resources, increase convenience for consumers and work as a carbon sink. Earth Savers Recycling will take all solid waste and store it in environmentally secure deposits for future recycling. A some point in the near future the compacted and stabilized materials will have value to consumers. Then they will be mined, refined and reused.
For cities that choose to use Earth Savers Recycling there will be immediate benefits. Residents won’t have to sort their trash, there will be half as many trash trucks and costs will go down.
The technology exists to securly store solid waste, so why aren’t we doing it? Mostly it is a fashion thing. Recycling is a way of signaling that you care. Cities and States as well as individuals want to appear that they care so they take on the expense and inconvenience of recycling.
Earth Savers Recycling can break this cycle by focusing all of its efforts on educating one target city. A well designed marketing education campaign can teach people that forced recycling now is depriving the future of resources that will become much more valuable. If successful, over time, your cities environmental waste deposits will become the new signal that you care about the earth.
