The Guns at Last Light
by Rick Atkinson
I read this book to prepare for my walking tour of Normandy. And I was prepared. I knew about the Mulberry Harbours the failed paratroop drops and the Omaha beach landing before the tour guide talked about them. Atkinson tells the story well with just about the right level of detail for me. I did not read the other two volumes in this trilogy and I probably won’t. Which tells you where I am in wanting to read about wars.My interest lies more in understanding how to make peoples lives better. I’ll leave war to others. A five in the Simon Scale. With a caveat for people who want to understand WWII before it fades into the past read Atkinson.
