2013 Rose Parade Acclaim

New Years Day started auspiciously, we were going to walk about a mile down to the parade but our neighbors were driving down and offered us a ride.  Never look a gift ride in the mouth.

who are the “Odd Fellows?” we asked

The parade was very excellent as usual.

Ladies conducting and marching backwards

The bands seemed more enthusiastic than usual.  We see them at the end of the parade when they have been marching for 5 miles.  The  wonderful thing about the parade is that it is a pop-up event it happens and then it is over until next year.

It may be that event like parades, fiestas and celebrations are the answer to the Replicators Dilemma (not enough for everyone to do).  Parades consume resources,  create a sense of purpose, create work for many and a community that people can feel connected to.  On the secondary level they create demand for transport, food and lodging.  They also create a place for communities to compete.   I think I have seen the future and it as a series of marvelous parties.

El Salvador had a marching band.

Israel didn’t. But they should read this to learn how and why

Imagine what the Pageant of the Superbowl Parade in Columbia SC, or somewhere, is going to be like, during Superbowl weekend when it gets going.

Detail of Trader Joe’s Sidewheeler excellent

Looking good.

Nancy Harvey my “Computer Dude” rode in the parade in native costume.
