There were three answers submitted to the off the cuff question “How do you say cheesy in German? on this weeks postcard.
käseartig from David B
schmalzige from Norman L
kitschig from Tom B
You decide. I have no data and there could be more than one way to say “cheesy” in German.
The photo in question
Tom B’s email with the sensitive parts redacted:
I just happened to be in Austria when I got your postcard with the link to the photo about Checkpoint Charlie so I asked one of my native German speaking colleagues what Cheesy was in German. He had never heard the English word so he did not know, but after a bit of discussion we arrived at “kitschig” which translates into kitschy. I showed him the photo and he said we had got it right – your photo is definitely kitschig.
