I just happened to be in Austria when I got your postcard with the link to the photo about Checkpoint Charlie so I asked one of my native German speaking colleagues what Cheesy was in German.  He had never heard the English word so he did not know, but after a bit of discussion we arrived at “kitschig” which translates into kitschy.  I showed him the photo and he said we had got it right – your photo is definitely kitschig.
