These are some “Life Rules” that I wrote for one of my nieces some years ago. I think they have withstood well the test of time.
1. To improve the chances of getting what you want; ask for it, politely.
2. Be positive. The world you see will reflect your attitude.
3. Spend time getting organized.
4. Make two lists. One for today and one for your long-term objectives.
5. Accept criticism graciously and give it constructively, with love and rarely.
6. The only things you can control are your actions and your attitude toward the actions of others.
7. Read a book or two every week or two.
8. Ask: “Is what I am doing right now getting me toward my objectives?”
9. Don’t try to be right. Try to get what you want.
10. Ask for a discount. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
11. The three keys to success are: Practice, Practice and Practice.
12. Pick your fights. Thomas Jefferson said: “In matters of principle stand like a rock, in matter of taste blow with the wind.”
