Possibly a Terry Pratchett quote. He says something like that in Good Omens and a very similar comment in one of his Discworld books, which, by the way, if you have not read them, are as much social commentary as fantasy, especially from about Small Gods (which may be the 13th book if I’m not mistaken) on. Highly recommended!

I have read Pratchett. My daughter introduced me to Discworld a few years ago and I couldn’t put them down. My favorite was “Going Postal.”
And you may be right it could be a quote from Pratchett.
