The purpose of this post is to document my guess on what Apple and Tim Cook will do next.
First a few facts. Apple has over $60 billion dollars in cash and negotiable assets. Motley Fool (a stock market advisory firm) is touting investment in an apple supplier. Apple has a $4.0 plus investment in Globalstar ostensibly to power their GPS and SOS systems. To continue growing they need hundreds of billions of dollars of new revenue.
My theory is that Apple is getting ready to launch a worldwide cellular network based on satellites not cell towers. Visualize Star link without Elon Musk tied seamlessly to the iPhone and other apple products. The benefit to the consumer would be one less monthly bill, slightly lower cost and much more coverage. Yes it would include internet access. The difficulty would be T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T have tremendous lobbying power and this would be a existential threat to their business model.
If you think I’m on to something shorting the legacy cellular network providers might be an investment opportunity.
Time will tell.
