Chyron

Noun: A caption superimposed over usually the lower part of a video image. In modern usage it is often referred to as the crawl.

Example: “The moving chryon has more appeal than the fixed one.”

Chyron Corporation, that still exists, was the first to create captions that could be superimposed on video images. They didn’t capture the word, like Xerox or Kleenex, we now use either crawl or caption.
