My hope for 2025:
Everybody uses their turn signals every time they turn or change lanes.
In Arizona turn signals are not used regularly at all. The excuses vary: I’m in the turn lane so its obvious, there was nobody around, it was too late, nobody else does. I would like the custom to be: Everybody uses their turn signals every time they turn or change lanes. The reason is because it is an uncomplicated rule that helps make traffic safer and shows a bit of civility at almost no cost in time or money.
It also won’t happen. In the same way that world peace or ending homelessness won’t happen. but this one you can do something about. Turn signals are for the good of the community. In our urban lives we are mostly in communities of strangers, on a bus, in traffic, in line at a fast food restaurant or boarding an airplane. There are unwritten rules/customs about how you should behave in each of those circumstances. I am merely suggesting, slightly tongue in cheek, that in traffic people use their turn signals, starting now.
Happy New Year
