Wine Tasting in Southern California.
We went wine tasting last spring with our friends Randy and Connie, who live in Temecula. It was the first of a busy summer of wine tastings that included Italy, Paso Robles California and the Williamette Valley in Oregon. My taste buds are not discerning enough to say which were the best wines but Temecula won the prize for the most efficient way of organizing the ritual.
When you entered the winery you were sold a card that allowed you x number of tastes. As you tasted the various wines they marked your card. The money was collected in advance and the confusion about free tasting and purchases of bottle was greatly reduced.
Wine tasting used to be free. It was considered a marketing expense. Now the tasting room is a profit center. Change is……
Definitely some wine tasting experiences are worth the money, some are not and some are still free. The Temecula experience was excellent, the wine was good and the transactional nature of the visit made it easier for me to understand.
Life is good.
