Horton Creek Hiking

Well the hiking season with the Leisure Hikers of Brandeis has ended and it was another great year. There were of course some “porcupines,” but it was a very nice group with a shared interest. Under the leadership of Bob and Ellen K we went on some pretty good hikes. Our last hike of the season was Horton Creek trail to Horton Springs. It is a 4 mile one way stream side hike in the Coconino National Forest off highway 260 just NE of Payson. Reminder before trying this hike: do not trust what you read on the internet! Do your own independent research! This writer is not reliable about times, distances and elevation gains.

The leisure hikers of Horton Creek

A few of us got up to the spring and I got a video.

The trail follows the stream gently upwards and there are lots of sylvan glades. Then suddenly the stream, that we had been following, comes gushing unexpectedly out of the base of the Mogollon Rim.  All the water and trees make it one of my favorite hikes in Arizona so far.

All of us got back to the cars. Which is the first objective of hiking.
