On May 6, 1954 Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile. I was almost seven years old at the time and I was smitten. He was English, I was English. He looked like my Dad. We formed a running club and ran every day for the entire summer. And now the heroes of my youth are dying. Most of them are forgotten but Roger Bannister is remembered and mourned. He died on March 3, 2018 at age 89. A life well lived.
