We have a collective desire to have a big thing to fear. It is part of our DNA.

Right now climate change is the big thing we fear.

We used to collectively fear gods or God.  Other fears have been Atomic War, Communism and Others (yellow peril, mongol hordes, etc.)

Buying into a collective fear may help our genes survive.  The threat of the big thing makes us willing to subordinate our desires to the common good.  This may help our common genes survive.  What about when the big thing is a false alarm?

A strategy suggestion for those who don’t like the allocation of resources to lowering atmospheric CO2.  We need a big thing to fear.  Promote a new big thing.
