You can’t plan for serendipity
But you can leave space for it.
This is another of a continuing series of posts about serendipity.
Simon and Serendipity are alliterative and I should be able to make a nice motto out of them but the only one I’ve come up with so far is “Simon Seeks Serendipity.” Which doesn’t work because serendipity has to find you. The very seeking of a serendipitous moment makes it less serendipitous. It requires more work.

Serendipity
Noun: The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
Example: If you want to experience serendipity go small and get off the tourist track.
My goal when we travel is to have moments of serendipity. I have mentioned serendipity in many posts over the 20 years I’ve been blogging now it’s made Words Seldom Seen.
We first saw Andrew Goldsworthy’s stone sculptures at Storm King Art Center so it was a marvelous moment of serendipity when we found two of his pieces on the woodland sculpture trail from the Frank Lloyd Wright home at Kentuck Knob back to the visitor center. Continue reading “Andrew Goldsworthy”
Here is a specific idea that combines the directed travel idea from my why we travel writing and the core idea from Arbitrary Stupid Goals. Visit all of the covered bridges in Oregon, walk across each one and take a pictures. Allow enough time for serendipity. Why ask why?
