Last year I was a volunteer mentor to a trio of USC engineering students who had entered an entrepreneur contest. They had a social entrepreneurship idea to bring clean water to villages in Rwanda. They didn’t win the contest but persevered and raised enough money via a Kickstarter style campaign to fund the first project. During the process I bought them dinner a few times, questioned their plans, donated a little bit of money and encouraged them to start building and testing.
Now I’m getting a payback. I got a thank you note from the Community Water Project and a postcard from Rwanda.
I love getting postcards
So what is the trifeca. A postcard, a thank you and the knowledge that I’m actually helping some of the world’s poorest people get clean water.
My thank you is to Kiki, JT and Viv whose perseverance has made this possible.
You can follow The Community Water Project on Facebook or contribute to phase two on Squarespace. Who knows perhaps you will hit the trifecta.
