There are lot of ads on the radio and in other media for Solar Electric Systems installed in your home. I’m not a customer because I’m not willing to trade cost for convenience. Especially when the cost savings might be ephemeral. But that is not the topic of this ideapreneur post.
I have discovered a much better way than blanket advertising for someone selling solar electric systems to find qualified leads. It will work for a sole proprietor or for a giant company and it is incredibly simple. The largest pool of people predisposed to buying a home solar electric system are people who own a Prius.
No Prius photo on file
Why are Prius owners likely buyers of Solar Systems? They have already shown that, for whatever reason, they are willing to pay more for a product that has an “environmental cache”. A Prius driver is the perfect potential customer for a Solar Electric System.
How do you reach them? Leaflet their cars with a flyer offering a discount. Or buy a DMV list and send out a mailer offering a discount.
An Organic Econoline Van
I like this idea so much I might get a job selling solar systems.

What if they’re just buying for the mileage?
Matt,
I think people who buy Prius for the mileage are self-deluding. The fuel saving almost never offsets the cost premium.
