We are in Santa Fe one of the worlds great art towns and so my mind has turned to thoughts of art.
Over the last decade we have bought a lot of art and followed even more artists progress. The two that have done the best in terms of appreciation are William Shepard and R. Kenton Nelson. We bought a Shepard but not a Nelson. Both af these artists are now out of reach for us pricewise. We first learned about both of them in restaurants where they were hung. In both cases the restaurant owner had bought the piece. It was not part of an exhibit for sale.
I speculated that there might be a correlation between restaurant owners purchases and value. Nurit agreed but pointed out that it had to be established restaurants where the owner knew the community.
So our theory is that the way to find good art values is to eat at good restaurants and buy the art that the owners of those restaurants buy.

It’s great to look into buying art, but it’s always best to learn more about the art that your interested in to make sure you’re purchasing the piece that’s best for you.
In this case I’d do some reading on R. Kenton Nelson
which can be found here
