Not many years ago in the dark ages before cell phones AT&T installed Phone from Truck poles in freeway rest areas around the country.
Here is a photo of one of the remaining poles:
The phone is gone but the historic pole lingers on
It needs to be in a museum somewhere.
Before about 1984 it was impossible to make a phone call from your car and the term “text message” had not been invented because it wasn’t needed. This illustrates why I am optimistic about the future. The little incremental improvements that come from the inventions of things like cell phones and bagged lettuce in aggregate make huge improvements in the way we live.
Nobody should be nostalgic for a return to Phone from Truck communications.
