It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.”

Barack Obama

He didn’t explain why maybe you can.

  1. The Post Office uses private contractors, FedEx and UPS has its own employees. Contractors have a guaranteed job for the length of the congtract. Employees can be fired. Big difference in the “care” factor at work.

Actually the post office is one of the largest employers in the country. It has 700,000 plus employees. They use contractors to move interstate mail but all of the local delivery and sorting is done by unionized employees. The employees are now fighting ending Saturday deliveries and other change necessary for the Post Office to remain viable as their volume goes down by five to ten percent per year.

  3. I would much rather subsidize social security. that way I can retire. The way it is looking now I won’t be able to retire until I am 83.
