We were at LAX this morning to catch a flight to Santa Fe. It was morning prime time and the line for the TSA screening was a half an hour long. After eight years they can’t solve this service problem. And these are the people that want to run more of the healthcare system? Why would we allow the government to run Healthcare? They can’t even get airport screening correct.
The problems of the TSA are the normal ones of a large organization that doesn’t have to compete. It is focused on what is best for its employees and other constituencies. The people waiting in line don’t have any leverage. They can’t go anywhere else. So there needs (like fast screening) are to a large extent ignored.
The TSA’s problems are exacerbated because they are not allowed to use the best tool available to do their job, profiling. Rational, not racial, profiling would lower costs and produce better results than the bulk screening that they use now. When you combine a burocratic mentality with political correctness you end up with TSA or National Health. There must be a better way.
Sorry about the spelling my spell check utility on this new apple isn’t working yet. Or rather I don’t know how to work it.
