Here is an example of unintended consequences. When this new mall was built the parking spaces were made on the small side. It is not clear why this was done. Was it to meet a City of Pasadena requirement? Did the developer think that more people would be able to park here if the spaces were smaller? Maybe the company who did the striping in the lot just measured wrong? Whatever the reason, the consequence of making the parking spaces to small is that fewer cars can park in the lot.

Actions have consequences. This is a nice convenient local mall with good stores but I and I assume many others sometimes avoid it because by making the parking spaces too small they have made it hard to park here.
