Hopkins is quoted as saying the above when signing the Declaration of Independence at age 69. He was born into a rich Rhode Island family, became a lawyer, a judge and Governor. And yet he is one of the forgotten fifty. In his case he is little remembered outside Rhode Island. He was a founder and the first chancellor of what is now Brown University. Hopefully school children in Rhode Island are required to learn about this memorable but unremembered founding father Stephen Hopkins
