The photo is from Mesa Verde NP. An ancient window serves as a frame for a short stone ally. This picture could have been taken in Israel or Cambodia. Ste structures that remain for us to see are the stone ones. I assume there were many more wood structures but rot, scavenging and fire have removed all traces of them. We are left with a distorted view of how the ancients lived.
Calvin Coolidge was not very verbose but this quote gives you a pretty good picture of what life was like during the first part of the 20th Century.
