The tallest building in Grand Junction, Colorado is the new hospital.
Think about this paradox. We are told that there is a health care crisis. The cost of care is too expensive, some people aren’t covered by insurance and the people working in the healthcare field are working harder and harder for less and less money. Yet at the same time there is a hospital building boom around the country. In my area they have built new buildings at two local hospitals and the Kaiser on Sunset has a beautiful new wing. There is a contradiction between these two data points.
So which is it? Is the health care industry in crisis or is it growing rapidly to meet demand and having growing pains?
Tomorrow the numbers on Baby Boomer Medicare costs. Young people will read them and weep.
Still to come more stories from Colorado.
