Note the bottom of this restaurant check from Coco’s. It says “If split among two guests each pays $9.65.” Good idea. Especially if you have 7 people in your party. Of course you could just use the calculator function on your cell phone.
What else could a restaurant do electronically to make things easier for guests? How about keep a record for you of what you ordered before? Diet and nutrition information on the menu? Words for telling the wait staff if you are eating fast or dawdling?

How about a “tip calculator”? Something like 15% tip = $2.89. In NY, we can double the tax (16%), but when I’m traveling and unsure of the tax rate, calculating the tip can be a little difficult. I know people who cannot do the math at all!
How about making “Total” and the amount in really big print so I can read it and take out the little line in the zero that makes it look like an eight.
Several restaurants I’ve been to have a 10%, 15% and 20% tip calculated at the bottom.
I also tip on the tax just because it is easier than finding the sub-total and calculating the tip to add back to the total. I’m good at math but not after wine, I round of the bill to the nearest $5 or $10, take ten percent and double it. I always over tip breakfast wait staff, they had to get up earlier than me.
