My question is: Would Pope John Paul II be okay with bingo as a fund raiser?

I believe that if he was raised Catholic in the United States, he would have no problems with Bingo as a fund raiser. It is a very acceptable form of fund raising within most Catholic churches in this country. Bingo is not the same form as gambling that you find in most casinos.

I had a friend who ran the bingo game at his Temple and he explained that “Bingo is legal and gambling is not legal because bingo is not gambling. Bingo is stealing.”
Eventually they switched to non-smoking bingo and within a few years it was gone.
