Noun: The hard upper shell of a turtle, crustacean or arachnid. Sometimes used metaphorically.

Example: “The sea turtles carapace blended with the rocks.”

Metaphorically: “His carapace of competence was pierced by the enormity of the task.”

  1. Brian found a sand turtle recently at his Joshua Tree ranch and the approximately 12” long carapace was a desert brown coloration.
