This dive trip was one of our best and I need to mention the people who made it happen.

  • Tom Gorman and all of the staff at Scuba Travel Ventures They organized our trip and they can organize yours.
  • Rainer and Toby the chefs at the Atlantis Resorts. Most dive resorts are not known for their food.  Atlantis would be worth visiting just for the food.  Be sure to try Rainer’s potato salad and Toby’s Sashimi with fresh wasabi.
  • Jerry the Worlds Greatest Dive Master.  He kept us alive and showed us things that we shouldn’t have seen.
  • All of the staff at the Atlantis Resorts and and especially the managers, Bigs at Dumaguete and Richard at Puerto Galera.  Where ever we went in the Philippines “we had people.”

Scuba Diving is an excellent hobby at many levels (pun intended) but one of the best thing about it is that it self selects for people who are adventurous, tolerant and fun.  Our group of Codger Divers was of course excellent and we met lots of other interesting people in our travels.  Sandra, Mike, Paul, Bryan, Kay, Chris, Steve, Goto and many more..Thanks   Life Is Good

The best drink in the Philippines was the Caipirinha. It was made with a small local lime called a Calamansi.  Here is the recipe from Arturo one of the excellent bartenders in Puerto Galera.

CAIPIRINHA

  • 40 ml Vodka
  • 20 ml Triple sec
  • 40 ml Calamansi juice (substitute lime juice)
  • 3 Tsp brown sugar
  • 1 scoop of ice
  • mix all ingredients with 5 slices of Calamansi

Drink.

  1. Simon,

Nice posting, looks like you had a great trip. Those underwater shots really came out well. How did you get such good color on those day shots, was it just flash, or flash with additional lighting. Let me know so I know how to prepare for the next trip. Thanks for the post cards, keep sending.

    Best regards,

    Tom

  2. Tom and other codgers,

I’m still using my little Sony cybershot DSC T1 with the dive housing. Codger Harte told me to had an external flash for better pictures and he was right. I bought a Sealife SL961, it has a fiber optic strand that attaches to the front of the housing to pick up the camera flash and duration. I also set the camera on Macro. Half of the picture result is from underwater and the other half is messing with it on the computer. I just use the hp photo soft ware that came with my printer.
