Words Seldom Seen: Aphasia

Aphasia

Aphasia, noun: The inability to remember and or speak words or phrases.

Example: My aphasia kept me from remembering the word derangement when trying to say “Trump Derangement Disorder.”

Photo is of a barrel cactus in fruit. This particular one was far enough down into the city that the Javelina hadn’t gotten to it… yet.

Note: Aphasia is a serious medical condition related to brain damage. Using it for the kind of forgetfulness that afflicts the elderly is a self depreciating attempt at humor. I bleed and bruise easily and call it Adult Onset Hemophilia it is a joke and is not intended to offend hemophiliacs. Same goes for aphasia.

Thanks to John A for this excellent words. I hope I can remember to use it when appropriate.

  1. I like the word Aphasia for our forgetfulness but I really appreciate that you include the disclaimer about offending people who really have aphasia
