Here is an idea: Let people who have no carry on luggage board first.
It is agonizing to watch and wait while people are boarding a plane with a suitcase, a backpack and a jacket. Airlines spend billions waiting for the people to get on and off the plane.
If no bag, or perhaps one bag people, could board first it would encourage people to take less stuff. It would also encourage airlines to streamline the baggage system to accommodate their “A List” customers. Of course the airlines are going the other direction by charging for bags which encourages carry on bags. This might be a good idea to contemplate but it is going nowhere.
good point and good suggestion—. if they made checks bags free and carry ons a charge. — that would speed up the boarding process. It would also speed things up if the boarded the planes back rows first and front rows last and encourage people to take their bags back to near their seats
