If you look carefully at the photo above near the center you can see the round towers of a Norman castle. The photo was taken from the patio of our wonderful rental house in Charnay. Here is the castle magnified:

On the one morning when I had both the time and inclination to go for a hike I set out to find it thinking that it was at most a mile or two away. It was three hilly miles away but I had AllTrails, the paths were beautiful and the traffic when I had to walk on the roads was light.
