John Marshall
by Richard Brookhiser
John Marshall was an aide to George Washington during the revolution. He was not a signer of the Declaration of Independence and he was not a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. But he played a critical role in getting the Constitution ratified and and even more important role in defining the relationship of the courts to the other branches of government. Brookhiser tells the story well. He paints a picture of a fallible man with a mission to preserve the Constitution. If you like books about the founding of America I recommend John Marshall.
