Hegemon

Noun: A leading or dominant power. Usually applied to nations.

Example: “The United States is the reluctant hegemon.”The USA became the worlds dominant power by the luck of geography and the power of a good idea. Together the luck and the idea attracted the best and the brightest from around the world and created a righteous circle of growth that still continues.
