Swallows return to Capistrano.
And the Great Blue Heron returns to my pond. A medium sized one is lurking around the pond again this year. This picture was taken a couple of days ago after Missy scared him off the fence and he went into the neighbors tree. Here is a picture from last years visit.
Last years visit was also in January. We are definitely a feeding stop on the herons migration route.
Life is Good.

I got this additional information from Mike F. Our birding correspondent:
“Simon- neat. Great Blues generally don’t migrate great distances. With a steady food source they may move very little- say from one fish pond in Pasadena to another in Santa Monica. . Why should they, particularly in the mild SOCAL weather, Great Blues here on Little Cumberland are a static population- here all yr long. They have food, shelter and mates- what else does a Great Blue need? But, when we lived on Tybee- a large GBH appeared every
winter(like your bird) and stayed til spring, for over 20 yrs. Don’t know where or how far it flew.”
You need to show a picture of this years Heron deterrents including Herald in a rain coat.
