The Meaning in Life

“Most people need to find meaning within structures they do not create.”

William GalstonThis short quotation shows the limit of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Self actualization is to a large extent an elitist conceit. Most people find their meaning in life in small groups that they don’t have to organize.

Galston is with the Brookings Institution. His recent book is Anti-Pluralism. I might read it just to see the intellectual arguments against the populist tide.
