At the Pueblo Grande Museum we attempt to give people a hands on experience. One way we do that is through the artifact cart where visitiors can touch actual ancient artifacts and some recreations. What is shown above is a recreation of an ancient fire starting tool. My plan is to build my own recreation of this using materials from the Sonoran Desert. It should be pretty easy to make once I find the materials. The Ancient Sonoran Desert People were remarkably ingenious. They had a stone age culture but built a complex society with the resources to irrigate cooperatively tens of thousands of acres of land.

Simon is that a nail in the bottom of the tool? If so, why and where would it come from pre European contact?
