The 2016 Youth Unemployment Act

$15.00 an hour wages will mean a lot less entry level jobs.

Here are four pictures that tell the story:

At Panera Bread you can now order without a clerk.

At a Holiday Inn Express buffet breakfast there is now an automatic pancake machine.

At the Yard House, a full service restaurant, you can order and pay from the table.

Much less wait staff required.

Even the human sign board has been automated.

A $15.00 per hour minimum wage is a job killer. Service industry jobs can be automated and they will be. Other jobs in manufacturing and customer service will just go to where labor is cheaper.

  1. Well, I think most of those jobs you mention above that are automated would be so regardless of whether the minimum wage is as it is now or is higher.

  2. Scott Of course it isn’t a static situation but don’t you think that labor is price sensitive like food, cars and gasoline? If the price goes up people will buy less of it and the young and the least skilled will suffer the most.

  3. people keep pricing themselves above the price to do the job effectively, look at the auto unions. forcing an increase in pay only spurs innovators to do the work without humans,. The businesses do need to reward good employees with raises, raises that would enable workers to spend money that in turn would increase business thereby increasing profits and hopefully employment.
