When we went to the Spring Training Game in Tucson we left Missy the dog at Doggy Day Camp at Pets Mart. Nurit organized with our home store to have her shots and her approval so we could stop at any Pets Mart that has the service and leave Missy. When we picked her up we were able to see her playing before she saw us. Note that her tail is up. What a great service. Very well run and perfect for travelers.
Nurit and I had to fly back to Pasadena on Monday to see Gary D. who is still very ill. The trip meant we had to leave Acequia Madre at 5:45am and wouldn’t be home until midnight and because we were flying Missy, the dog, couldn’t go with us. Nurit googled (new verb) petsitters (new noun) and found NMpetsitters.com Missy A few phone calls led us to Sloan Cunningham of Pet Care by Sloan. We hired Sloan over the phone and she turned out to… Read More »Missy Stays at Home
Nurit and I went on a driving trip to Napa for a few days with Missy our dog and then on to Redding to see the Sundial bridge. I’ve posted the best pictures on Flickr. The mustard was in bloom. Travelling with Missy gave us far more benefits than difficulties. People who like dogs are always happy to stop and chat with you if you have a dog along so you get to chat casually with locals. This almost never happens when you travel without… Read More »Napa with Missy the Dog
The tables at my neighborhood Starbucks are back. They were gone because of a “permit renewal issue” and I wrote a blog post about it, that was pretty scathing, last week. But this morning when I walked Missy the Brave they had returned. Perhaps my blog post helped. More likely it was the intervention of Andy Wilson our local councilperson. He was very responsive and the desired result was achieved within a few days. I’m pleased because I need a place to tie up Missy… Read More »They’re Back

This is one of the backyard scuba stories I love so much. Nurit and I took Missy the Brave for a walk last weekend in the Chapman Woods area about a mile south of here. We started walking in the nice, eclectic, upscale residential neighborhood and came to a fenced area that looked like the back of a poorly maintained park or a weird institution of some type. So we walked around it to see what it was. in short order we came across a… Read More »Local History
Answer: NO! There is not a way to say this delicately or to make you believe me so I took pictures. A bear shit in our backyard: No it is not dog shit which looks like this: The bear shit looks like this: We heard Missy the dog barking and growling in the night a few nights ago and I heard a thump. No other damage was done. The entire yard is enclosed by “the Great Wall of Simon.”
I’ve been to the Sundial Bridge in Redding CA three times. This was the first time it was sunny enough to get a good picture. Here is one of my other attempts. This is the one I took last month: It has a glass deck and the shadow of the arm hits a wall and tell the time. It is supported by cables. The only problem is that it really is the pedestrian bridge to nowhere across the Sacramento River.
